So, I watched 'Lord of Illusions' last night on hulu for the first time in years, and I really have to wonder how I was able to watch that damn thing when I was younger. If anyone is wondering what it is, it's a fairly bad horror movie staring Scott Bakula before he got lame. Or, in midst of getting lame. Or....you know, maybe he was always a little lame. It's disturbing and gory and full of gratuitous boob shots (Then again, what horror movie after 1959 isn't.)
Anybody else going to the danger room zombie hunt?
Also, I've been trying to do a Halloween edition of French Canadian Man but apparently when I got my new computer I forgot to install my art program. I cried a little inside. I could try using Paint but it wouldn't be the same.
Also also, ONE MONTH TIL MY BIRTHDAY! (And one month and one day until Julio's birthday! Which is also important!)

I realized once again tonight how much I absolutely hate homework. Don't teachers realize that more work for us means more work for them in the long run? Okay, I'm not really complaining about the completely expected work load, but I would like to point out that I haven't gone out to do anything at ALL this week.
I think I might decorate my room for Halloween a little bit. I still haven't settled on a costume. I don't even know if I'm doing anything. Dammit, we need to get something fun going, Pete has the right idea.
Also, I watched the first Child's Play a little too late last night and it scared the crap out of me. It's not like I've never seen it before, but I get the same way with The Ring, and The Grudge. And now I have mental images. And now I need a hug.

Note to self: No more rallies.
On a side note, why do I feel awesome that I got to sign Dr. McCoy's cast? I mean, he and Kyla both got hurt, which isn't fun or cool at all, but it's just sort of nifty that he's letting students write things all over his arm.
Kyla, can I write on yours too? :D I'll draw French Canadian Man.

So, last night I was bored as hell and watched this series called "Dead Set". It's a British tv mini-series about a zombie attack set around the Big Brother house. It was actually pretty good, even if it freaked me out a little (I buffered it a little by watching a few eps of the new Futurama season afterward.)
It was surprisingly graphic for a television show, but I suppose I'm just used to the standards here in the US. Thinking about it more, Canada definitely allows less censorship than here too. Still, I was surprised.
Also, the guy who looked a lot like Julio got turned into a biter in the first ep. (Julio, you're being added to the list of people who are NOT allowed to get turned into zombies.)
At any rate, I was up so late watching it, and it took me so long to fall asleep that I nearly slept through my first class at one in the afternoon. Thankfully, I'm zippy.
Moral of the Story: I'm no longer allowed to watch scary things by myself on school nights.

Is it too early to start thinking about what I want to do for Halloween?
Also, what be these shenanigans on the news?

So, the trip went well. Talked to mom a bit, but she doesn't seem to think any differently of it than she did before. Which could be good or bad. I guess we'll figure it out later.
Totally drew a bright pink smiley flower on my brother's cast. He actually liked it though... >.>

Screaming Trees - Look at You |
] |
So, apparently my littlest brother fell out of a tree and broke him arm today. I talked to him on the phone a bit, and he seems more sad because school is starting so soon and he won't be able to play like everyone else. I'm contemplating zipping up tomorrow to go see him. I mean, that trip itself will only take an hour or two as long as I don't bring anything with me. I just feel bad for the poor guy even if he's a pain in the butt constantly (he probably gets that from me anyway).
The down side to this trip is that I think my mom knowing I did it/can do it might freak her out a bit. I think she's more cool with the whole "mutant" thing when I'm...well...not there. We haven't really talked about it much. It was pretty much "Hi mom, I'm a mutant, and in a few weeks I'll be going to a mutant college in the states. Love you!". I'm not totally sure how she feels about it overall. God, it makes her sound awful, but it's really not that bad. I just sort of sprung it on her, and I don't know if she fully understands what it is that I do. "Flying" and "moving fast" are a little bit different than "hey mom, look, I can fly Mach 3!".
I thought about maybe just sort of...sneaking over and seeing my brother, then sneaking back, but that would be insanely dishonest. That and I do really want to see her. I don't visit enough. There might also be a "crossing the border" security issue, but honestly, they'd have to catch me first. Not terribly worried.
I don't know, maybe I'm obsessing over nothing just to zip North and draw embarrassingly girlie things on my little brother's cast. I'm thinking "I <3 the Jonas Brothers" and some sparkly unicorns might do it.
I'm a bad, bad big brother. :)

So I went to the store today and got these weird shrimp chip things. They're apparently from Japan, I think? They were in the ethnic cuisine section of the market next to the pocky so I'm going to assume that's right. At any rate, they're delicious and they only have eight ingredients in them. I just thought everyone should know.

So...for the last assignment for my summer writing course I have to write a ten-page story from the perspective of someone I know, with me being one of the central characters that the person runs into during the course of it.
Remind me that I have to do this to my students at some point during my own potential teaching career, because it's only when you have to write about yourself that you really see what kind of a person you are, or, you show other people what kind of a person you THINK you are. I already knew I was an egotistical, cocky bastard so this does nothing for me.
It's evil, and fun, and I really can't describe myself past "Canadian" and "Short" without coming off too much like...myself, as opposed to someone else. I haven't even decided whose perspective I'm writing it from.
Maybe Rem, but I don't know if I can dumb myself down that much. (LOVE YOU CAJUN! <3)
Edit: Also visit my city?

The Arcade Fire - Wake Up |

Alright so, the package on the Pepperidge Farm milano cookies states that their secret ingredient is "a baker's soul". I realize that it's not meant to be literal, but that's sort of a strange thing to consider when taken out of context.
Think about how many Milano cookies the company ships out each year. How would you go about getting enough of those to match supply and demand without anyone noticing? Is there some sort of screening process to know you're getting the real thing? Do baker's souls taste any different than regular souls? Hell, I want evidence that they're not cutting corners with, say, cheap Culinary Pre-grad students instead of the real thing.
Still, no wonder they taste so good.

I, Jean Paul Beaubier, am now the proud papa/owner/landlord of a colony of sea monkeys. I kid you not. See Monkeys. They actually exist(though, admittedly, they look nothing like the creature-from-the-black-lagoon dudes on the package). Anyway, I got them when I went shopping with Alison the other day. They have this nature and science store for kids and I'd never been in it. Lots of nifty stuff in there.
Anyway, they're so itty bitty that I can't really see them right now (theoretically they hatched a few hours ago), but they're supposed to grow and multiply on their own over the next few weeks. I just have to remember to feed them regularly, and give them a little fresh water every once in a while. I think I'm going to start naming them the right way, half of them Coral Junior, half of them Marlon Junior, and one of them Nemo. This is what happens when people let me buy pets in bulk.
Also, I don't think it helps that I'm running on about three hours of sleep, which is making me spazzy and overamused. Thanks Ali, thanks a lot. <3

[Sunday

Let me start off by saying I'm not a huge fan of spiders.
I was taking a shower tonight and I turned around to rinse off and I see this little creepy crawly start belaying down the wall RIGHT in front of my face. I just stood there watching it because I didn't really want to move and splash the guy with water and kill it (just because things are creepy doesn't mean they need to DIE).
So, it makes its way to the other end of the tub and FALLS to the tub floor, but it's dry on that end because the water doesn't really go that far. Still, as he tries to climb up the tub wall to the ledge, but it's a little bit damp and he keeps sliding all the way back down. He gets almost to the top and every time he drops all the way to the floor again. Now the whole time I'm sitting there watching him, blocking the flow of water because I still don't want to kill the poor little guy. Seriously, how would you feel if you woke up, walked out of your house, went to get some breakfast and BAM there's a giant staring down at you. Naked. That's pretty much a life or death situation.
ANYWAY, I watch him climb up and slide back down a few times before I grab my shampoo bottle. The minute he gets up pretty far, I press the bottle against the side of the tub wall so he only falls a few inches, then he can climb from there, like a checkpoint. I keep doing that until he gets to the ledge, and when he does he sort of trots off around the tub edge behind the shower curtain.
I saved a life today people.
I also made sure that when I pushed the shower curtain aside I didn't squish him.
So now when the spiders grow to monstrous proportions and try to enslave humanity, I'll know that at least ONE of those suckers owes me.
That's all.
